Visa’s Digital Wallet V.Me is Out of Beta and Up and Running!

2 min read,

We already wrote about V.me, a domain acquired by Visa for their cool new brand and payment system. Well, we are happy to announce that V.me, a digital wallet created by Visa, is finally out of its beta testing stage! So go get your V.me account!

Visa cards and V.me are different brands of the same company, representing different forms of payment. The new digital wallet somewhat resembles PayPal as it allows users to link their „wallet“ to other forms of payment like a credit card. It should be noted that your Visa is not the only credit card that works with V.me: you can also link your Amerecan Express or Discover.

This is supposed to make online purchases swift and simple, especially from mobile phones and tablets. This means that you no longer need to type in a 16-digit account number to complete a transaction- all you need to do is access your V.me digital wallet with a user name and password and buy something.

The official V.me launch was accompanied by deals Visa has signed with over 50 financial institutions supporting the platform, including America First Credit Union, Capitol Federal Savings Bank, and others. These financial institutions service over 55 million people. Visa has also made deals with a number of online merchants who will support V.Me payment method.

Unlike its competitors,  Google wallet or possibly upcoming iWallet, V.me is designed for web use only- it is not meant to be a mobile app allowing for contact-free payments. What it allows you to do is to get a „fast track“ when shopping, avoiding the tedium of filling out credit card details over and over. Web shops supporting V.me will have it as a separateoption on their checkout page.

Visa’s global head of eCommerce Jennifer Schulz said in a statement for The Next Web:

“V.me is built around a single concept, to help people shop online simply and securely,”
