Unroll.Me for iPhone Gets Rid of Unwanted Email Newsletters on the Go
Sometimes, I just hate email. What about you? Spam, right? Tedious newsletter as well? We all know how cluttered our inboxes can get when we end up getting tons of email we don’t need, such as email subscriptions we’ve forgotten about or just email lists that we don’t want to be on. Thankfully, the new Unroll.Me app for the iPhone helps solve all these problems by giving you a quick, Tinder-like interface to get rid of all those emails you never want to clutter your inbox again!
Unroll.Me was started in 2012. as way of easily unsubscribing from all the email lists that we don’t want to receive anymore. While the process of unsubscribing isn’t that complex – you just have to click on a link and confirm once for most lists – it does take a lot of time if you’re subscribed to a lot of them. Most people don’t actually undertand to how many email lists they’re subscribed to, so they are as amazed as ZDNET’s Jason Perlow to find out that they’re on hundreds of lists.
Unroll.Me’s service started out as a simple website but wants its new iPhone app to be an even easier way to unsubscribe – or roll up! What’s a Rollup you ask? While a lot of email lists are just waiting for us to escape from their cluches, there are are a lot of legitimate newsletters that we actually don’t mind – or even enjoy receiving. For me: Hiten Shah’s Saas weekly newsletter in which he curates various business articles is a must-have. I always end up reading all of the right away – or at least adding them to my Pocket account to read later.
Rollup, which is also supported by the new iPhone app, is a “beautiful” (to quote the team behind Unroll.Me) digest of all the emai that you want to receive. Instead of getting dozens of different emails, you can roll all of them up into Unroll.Me’s special feature, Rollup. It’s also part of Unroll.Me’s lesser known business model, based on promoting featured email lists that are tailored to your interests.
Tinder for Your Email
To say that Unroll.Me’s app is ‘Tinder for email’ is an understatement. The familiar interface that’s used to show if you want to meet a person is translated as three options in Unroll.Me: Keep, that lets you swipe right to keep the email subscription you want right in your inbox; Unsubscribe, to swipe left in order to (suprise!) unsubscribe from email subscriptions you don’t want – and Rollup, to add to your daily digest that we already mentioned.
The point of the Rollup is for emails to “skip” your inbox and end up in your inbox all at the same time as part of the digest. If you have more than one email account (like everyone does), Unroll.Me will let you go through email subscriptions from all your Gmail, Google Apps, Yahoo! Mail, AOL, iCloud and Outlook accounts!
You can download Unroll.Me for iPhone for free from the App Store, so don’t waste any time. Get your iPhone from your email pocket and clean up your email newsletter subscriptions. Thankfully, one of them certainly won’t be Unroll.Me’s own email, as co-founder Josh Rosenwald shared on the Zapier blog:
It’s a very sensitive topic because our user’s view, rightfully so, is, ‘Hey, you’re here to clean up my inbox why are you sending me stuff?’ So we’re really sensitive on how we do it. Once in a very long while, we do need to communicate with our users some how. But I would say, if we hadn’t built the product we built and if we were from another company, we’d be sending out a lot more email than we do just because it is such a good engagement tool.
