Totally.ME Wants To Be Your Social Home Page With Posts, Tweets and More
Do you spend way too much time on social networks? You’re not the only one, don’t worry. I usually check my Tweets before I get out of the bed in the morning and I check Facebook every day before leaving the house. Granted, it’s part of the job, but not all of it is for work. I am generally a person that likes to keep things separate, but it might be nice to be able to check all of your social networks at once, wouldn’t it?
This is where Totally.me comes into the story. This website lets to collect all of your social streams into one spot and use it from there. This idea was showcased on TechCrunch Disrupt several months ago and it launched not even a week ago. Here is how the Founder CEO Arjan de Raaf describes it:
More than simply aggregating information, Totally.Me allows their users to simply mark an item, forward items to friends, hide items, filter items by keyword, person or source and like/comment on items directly from Totally.Me instead of visiting any social network. On top of that, Totally.Me offers the possibility to go back in time by simply selecting a day to see all social updates and news headlines from that specific day.
Once you log into Totally.me (via Facebook, of course) you will be redirected to Facebook to pick how much of your control you want to relinquish to the application. Unless you allow the app to do whatever you asked for, it will keep bugging you with Facebook permissions every time you try to open settings. I do hope this is something that is about to change because it is quite annoying to keep rejecting permissions to post for me (and a couple of other permissions) every once in a while.
Like Pinterest for the news
I showed the website to a friend of mine and he was not interested. He declared it “Pinterest for the news“and I liked his comparison so much I had to include it in the article. 🙂 The cool part of this is that you can install Totally.Me’s News.Me button to add news headlines from more or less any news website. This will allow you to enrich your stream with news your friends are not sharing across the social internet, but might be interesting to you.
Totally.me is supposed to manage all of your social networks, but it does not right now. It offers only Foursquare, Google Reader, Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram currently. Of course, by logging into Facebook instead of actually registering via email, you are already logged into that network. Flickr, Vimeo, Google+, YouTube, LinkedIn and Tumblr are “coming”, but it is unknown when exactly we might expect them.
