Sync.Me iOS App Gets an Upgrade: Access Your Contacts Even Faster with New ”Widgets” Addition

Sync.ME, an application for iOS and Android that synchronizes your contact list, recently added a new feature for iOS: Widgets. Latest 7.0.0 version of the app now adds ”widget link” within Apple’s Contacts app. It will enable you to quickly access the social network profiles of your contacts, such as Facebook, Google+ and LinkedIn, and a few more things.
In case you missed our review of Sync.Me, this is s a free application which integrates all your contacts from Facebook, Google+and LinkedIn in one place. It is available for Apple iOS and Android, and, basically, it keeps your phone in sync.
Essentially, ”Widgets” are quick links to social networks and other functions of the app. Not a revolutionary thing, however, they do bring one major change for iOS users: you no longer have to launch Sync.me app to access them. All of the ”Widgets” functions now can be accessed from the native iOS Contacts app with a simple touch.
Links to Social Networks and More
Besides the links for social networks, there are some other new features as well. Making calls and recording them over VoIP via 3G /WiFi is useful for all those that don’t have a pen to write down useful information, but you can also jot down a note. You can share location or photo over iMessage or SMS, as well as post a reminder to your calendar for a specific contact. Lastly, you can post customized greeting cards directly to a contact’s timeline.
Recently, iOS 7.0 changed its interface, so Sync.ME did the same with its latest version. Installing the app is still very simple. You download it to your device and go through setup process for integration with social networks. App uses AddressBook API that automatically adds URL into a custom field for contact cards. That URL opens ”Widgets” section for any Sync.ME contact.
ME Card
Recently, the app added a new feature called ”ME card”. TechCrucnh explained this concept as following:
”… ME Card, […] acts as a single place within the app to edit all of your contact details and decide which changes you want synced with other Sync.ME users you’re connected with.”
It gives you a central place from where you can control what and how much information you want to share with other users. Also, it tries to standardize contact syncing across mobile platforms and social networks.
Sync.ME has one big attractive plus: social integration. It is trying to bring some sense and order to contacts scattered across different networks and platforms, and so far, it is doing this quite well. Usually those kind of solutions are lacking the “social” part, but with over 8 million downloads, that is not a problem.
