Preen.Me Is A Facebook-Driven Beauty Community With A Website? And It Looks Great!

3 min read,

There are a lot of online communities all across the web. One certain type of them distinguished itself by making video tutorials and publishing them on YouTube. It’s also worth mentioning, when you run that type of community, you can be sure that you’ll get a lot of user feedback in the form of likes, comments, shares etc.

I’m talking about beauty/makeup communities. There are a lot of them, mostly on some blog services or Facebook pages, YouTube channels, however, Preen.Me is in pretty advanced stage than the others are. Preen.Me actually is a beauty product recommendation service which launched in June 2012 and it already has a Facebook community with more than 217 thousand fans!

Beauty Seed Funding

When you have a large Facebook community like Preen.Me does, then you must ask yourself – will it be possible to switch them all to a website? Staying on Facebook isn’t ideal as well, but there must be a solution. So what actually happened is that Facebook community is still active, growing and it’s number one, however, the Preen.Me site has a fuction of being a Pinterest-like gallery of makeups, nail art and similar stuff.

You can check it out and log in with your Facebook account, after which you can vote “I would” and “I wouldn’t” for all those looks – would you wear them or not. Each look can be examined in more detail with the list of products used and a tutorial on how to recreate it. This is also the business part of Preen.Me – products listed are linked to online stores where you can buy them.

Preen.Me beauty community

A couple of days ago, as The Next Web reported, Preen.Me secured $800,000 in seed funding from Horizons Ventures, Genesis Partners and Orens Capital.

You’re Pretty!

Preen.Me started as a community which helps women around the world find beauty products that work for them – it pretty hard to find the perfect one because your skin changes and even the climate you live in can have the effect on your makeup. Preen.Me‘s founder Tamar Yaniv says that Preen.Me wants to take the guesswork out of buying beauty; that the US beauty market is a $60 billion industry and that women dispose of up to 75 percent of products they buy.

However, Preen.Me is a great example of how two platforms, Facebook and a website, can live in harmony; one is used to have a community and the other one to give something valuable to the community. And it can make some money on the side. Pure perfectionPreen.Me!
