Popcorn October #3: Helpful And Fun Movie Sites And Apps

For the last installment of Popcorn October, we’re going to present to you 9 helpful and fun movie sites and apps that did not fall in the ”streaming” or ”review” category. They will vary from serious to just plain odd. From useful to ”what the heck!?”. But what we’ll almost certainly guarantee, is that you’ll be tempted to check and try out all of them at least once. So without further ado, let’s start in the vanilla part of the pool and slowly swim toward the Tim Burton part. First on the list is:
Movies With Butter
Although there are reviews on Movies With Butter, there is much more. It is one of the best sources about the movie industry. It covers all stages, from development to distribution. If you need info about box office, what is opening this week or what is coming soon, this is your place. And if you prefer one author on the blog over the other, there are separate sections for each of them.
Movie Mistakes
We all want to see flawless movies, but everybody makes mistakes. That is the stuff Movie Mistakes thrives and lives of. No matter if the film is big or small, a classic or new, nobody is spared. From self-repairing machines that shouldn’t do that, to scars that walk over the face, if you want to watch your favorite movie with pair of new eyes, this is the site for you.
iTunes Movie Trailers
You are probably wondering what is so special about iTunes Movie Trailers that you can’t watch on YouTube. Well, there are some things that give it a bit more edge over the competition. Its design and extras like synopsis, cast, production details, etc. show that this is a specialized tribute to movie trailers. Plus having some extra content that other sites don’t have is a plus.
A Better Queue
Sometimes finding the right movie can be a real pain in the ass. So this is where A Better Queue helps a lot. You simply choose what type of movie you want to watch and it will filter out the results. It will compare your options with ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, so you can choose how high the ratings should be for a movie to show up in your results. Pretty neat.
Forget the Films, Watch the Titles
You know what they say about first impressions. That is why movie titles are important, and that is what Forget the Film, Watch the Titles is all about. It is dedicated only to the film title design. It features over 120 title sequences, interviews and making-of features. Title sequences can put the audience in the right mood, so why not give them a little extra attention?
Awards Daily
I know that there are movie awards freaks out there, so here is a site dedicated to our special needs: Awards Daily. Although lion share of the site goes to Oscar (pun intended), other awards are not neglected, so don’t worry. SAG, Bafta, DGA… Everybody can play on this playground. Even the television enthusiast have their place in the sun. Yay Emmy!
Movie Roll Free
Moving on onto the apps part of the article, first one is Android exclusive. Movie Roll Free is beautifully designed app that will allow you to mash all the movie info together. From viewing trailers, ratings from more that one review sites (that we mentioned in first Popcorn October installment), charts, awards, studios, even buying tickets. It has it all.
Vintagio
. Vintagio is an app that will allow you to convert your videos to a certain vintage style. From mute black and white era of the 20’s to more recent washed out 80‘s. It has soundtracks, skipping frames, adjusting the speed of the video and much more. Unfortunately it is not free. Fortunately, it’s only 0.99$.
RunPee
To end this list, here is app that is available for all major mobile platforms. It is so good that you will pee your pants. Actually, quite the opposite. RunPee will tell you when is the best time to run and pee during the movie without missing anything important. It will also tell you if there is extra content after the end credits. Just set the timer at the beginning of the movie and relax.
