Online Invoice? Billable.me is Free and the Simplest of Them All

3 min read,

Editor’s note: Since writing this article, Billable.ME has ceased to operate. This post remains as part of their legacy. However, you can read our story about a similar .MEr here.

Invoices, what a bother. If you want to make money you have to send them. As a freelancer or small business owner, you’ll be surprised how much time you spend creating, editing and sending invoices. Billable.me is a wonderfully simple application that lets you create invoices on the fly and then send or save them to your computer. You don’t even need to log in!

But lets not get ahead of ourselves. If you are currently doing your invoicing in Word, Pages or some other “office” application, you’re probably doing it by hand. Calculating the prices and totals in a separate application and then adding them. I’m sure there were at least a dozen times you didn’t do it properly and you ended up spending even more time creating new ones and bothering your clients or buyers. What a bother, really.

Need an invoice?

Although there are quite a few web apps that let you create invoices, none are as easy to use as Billable.me, and that’s because while the app lets you create invoices, it doesn’t give you a user account. You open up Billable.me and start creating your first invoice. You can edit each and every field, including:

  • Company name
  • Invoice number
  • Date
  • Items
  • Prices

Each and every bit of content such as the labels can be edited. The “total” can be “SUM” or anything else, which is awesome for international companies which the likes of Blinksale for example don’t support at all. With a push of the + you can even add a number of new items, while the total of the invoice will be calculated automatically based on the quantity and price of all added items. The tax can be edited as well.

Done!

Billable.me was actually created by Appfactory: designed by Barbara Cilliers and developed by Peter Pistorius. While their list of “popular feature requests” is getting smaller, they are planning to add the ability to upload a new logo as well as optional accounts. Nice. If you ever wanted to create such a cool, small app, you should – just don’t forget about our .me domain development program! 😉

1,2,3 – Billable!

Billable.me is perfect for the freelancer and small business owner who just needs a smarter solution than Word. A little automation (price calculation) goes a long way! You’re clients are billable so you should as well send that invoice with Billable.me.
