She is also very versatile, diligent, dauntless, bright, capable, zestful, and ambitious. Joyce is an achiever – no matter what she does, she always tries to challenge herself. She says she is always seeking to step out of her comfort zone. Joyce believes that’s the only way to let yourself grow and contribute.

Such an attitude is crucial for succeeding in the professional world. For one, she dares to push herself forward and seek opportunities to shine. What’s more, she also wants to do something meaningful and leave a mark. And that truly is a recipe for success.

In addition to being a talented professional who wears many hats, Joyce is equally versatile when it comes to her hobbies. She likes being in the kitchen, baking some scrumptious Asian-inspired treats. When she wants to unwind, she is often found on the court, playing badminton. Joyce is also a big dog-lover!

Education And Skills Of A Versatile Web Developer

Currently, besides being a web developer, Joyce is a student at the University of Waterloo, pursuing a major in computational mathematics.

Her studies enabled her to acquire and expand her knowledge in several key areas. These include Applied Real Analysis, Statistics, Probability, Financial Accounting, Financial Mathematics, Econometrics, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Investments, etc.

Such education enabled Joyce to test the lucrative waters of marketing and analytics. As a marketing intern at Lifepal, she put her mathematical and analytical skills to good use. She started by performing basic marketing duties, like managing social media accounts, increasing brand awareness, and boosting engagement. Additionally, Joyce was using Google Analytics and Data Studio to retrieve and analyze data. This led her to the internship position of marketing analyst.

As a marketing analyst, Joyce was in charge of creating marketing campaigns with the goal of acquiring new customers. She also examined certain marketing trends and drew conclusions, which she then used to increase the click-through rate.

Another opportunity Joyce got to further hone her analytical skills was during her time spent at Zenius Education. She was employed as a math specialist intern, dealing with some pretty interesting tasks on a daily basis. There, Joyce learned how to conduct competitor analysis and use the results to give her company a competitive advantage. Moreover, Joyce was in charge of visual data presentation, data deduplication, and topic classification. She would use the findings to draw deductions and make suggestions that would improve the company’s performance operations.

Volunteer Work

As a true-born contributor who believes in the importance of giving back to the community, Joyce did a lot of volunteer work.

She was a fundraiser for the Terry Fox Foundation and World Vision Canada. Moreover, she spent about a year volunteering as a data management tutor and a member of the executive student council. She also contributed to the Mathematics Society of the University of Waterloo, as an office worker and Spirit Day director.

Her sparkling personality and marketing skills enabled her to attract over 200 new members in a single day.

However, she made the biggest impact (so far) while volunteering for the UW Backpackers Association. Her sparkling personality and marketing skills enabled her to attract over 200 new members in a single day. She also used social media marketing and organized various activities to gain new members and increase brand awareness. What’s more, during her time there, the club got the “Best New Club” award – another proof of Joyce’s remarkable versatility.

Using A Multifaceted Skill Set To Become A Web Developer

Having the experience of working and volunteering in different industries helped Joyce discover what she truly wants to do. It has led her to her true calling, so she became a web developer.

Having the experience of working and volunteering in different industries helped Joyce discover what she truly wants to do.

Somewhere along the way, Joyce started using her many talents and proficiencies for designing and programming websites. Her first project, in fact, was to create her own website. She wanted to make the project feel personal, so no wonder she chose the most personal domain name – a .ME domain. She designed and programmed the website thanks to her knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS

She then used that knowledge to land her first job as a web developer, at the Waterloo Data Science Club. Currently, she is also working as a front-end engineer at Global Spark. Having two jobs might be too much for some people to handle. However, it’s definitely not too much for Joyce. After all, maximizing her productivity is what makes her full of beans.
