Podgorica, Montenegro – Feb. 24, 2011 – .ME Registry is proud to announce that Montenegro will host the opening ceremony of the 2011 Web Fest, the South East Europe Internet Festival and Conference that awards successful web projects. The event, to be held from September through November, 2011, will be sponsored by the .ME Registry, the official registration agent of .ME domain name, the ccTLD for Montenegro. The annual festival and conference is the region’s best effort at raising public awareness about the widespread value of Web technology, breakthroughs, communication and the ever-growing efforts of Internet entrepreneurs. In addition, the event will put emphasis on community education, use of the Internet in everyday life and promotion of web technologies to a new generation of Internet users.

This year, the event starts on September 22 at the opening ceremony for Web Fest .ME Conference in Budva, Montenegro. The three-day Conference in Budva will be the highlight of the Web Fest 2011, and there will be renowned world lecturers as well as the experts from the South East Europe attending the event.

“The conference in Budva is an important milestone in the event’s short history, since it is the first time the event will be officially opened outside Serbia” says Srdjan Erceg, Festival Director of Web Fest 2011. “The fact that Web Fest has physically moved outside the borders of a single country proves that our mission to promote the Internet as a unique communication, business and education tool has been a major success.”

“No other tool or technology has so drastically changed our individual lives as has the Internet. The world is literally at everyone’s fingertips now,” notes Predrag Lesic, executive director of the .ME Registry. “Millions and millions of people across the globe now find themselves using the Internet on a regular a basis and wondering how they ever survived without it!  We are proud to sponsor Web Fest to honor all those who have paved the way for this brilliant technology and all those who are hoping to introduce the next great Internet innovation.”

Submission period for the annual Web Fest Awards will be opened from September 1 to mid October. Winners will be announced in Belgrade, Serbia in November, at the closing ceremony. During the last three festivals, more than 5000 websites and Internet projects have competed for the international limelight during the Web Fest and this year we are hoping to break the record.
