3 min read,

It is (finally!) that time of the year when we review the premium domain segment of the .ME business and share the key insights. Whereas the number of domain registrations decreased compared to the 2023 results, the overall revenue increased by almost 30%, making 2024 the most successful year by the average price per domain metric. Last year, the primary market premium .ME domain was registered for almost 13K EUR on average.

Premium Domain Sales – facts and figures

The data below applies to the period from January 1st, 2024 to December 31st, 2024 and includes the facts and figures on .ME premium domains in the primary market through the registrar channel.

The total number of premium .ME domains registered – 34.

Total revenue – 435,500 EUR. [*excluding the registrar’s margin which is usually from 15%  to 25%].

The most notable domain registrant of 2024 is definitely Google who registered RCS.ME back in July. Short for Rich Communication Services, the domain is still not resolving but it might be one of the domain options for RCS chats developed for Google messages.

Some of the premium domains are already up and running, such as P2P.ME, a peer-to-peer protocol that discourages fraud by introducing transaction limits based on reputation points,  Study.ME – a tool that provides instant summaries of YourTube videos and X.ME – an AI-based social media platform for Web3 (and the only one-character .ME domain registered in 2024).

The top registrars – GoDaddy (14 domains), NameCheap (5 domains),  Alibaba Cloud Computing Ltd. (2 domains) and Cloudflare (2 domains).

Top countries – the United States (18 domains), Proxy (5 domains), China (2 domains).

Predictions for 2025

While the overall market, especially legacy TLDs, might still struggle to grow at the same pace as before, the premium domain market will remain strong due to the limited supply. The number of registrations may not necessariliy grow but, with the current inflation rates, the asking price for keywords and short domains will likely increase. According to Namebio, AI or crypto-related words still score high, indicating the continuation of the 2024 trends.

As for.ME premium domains, having in mind that at least 95% percent of the registry’s inventory is offered through the primary market, which probably means more eyeballs on 1,000+ one-character and two-character domains still available for registration, the demand is expected to grow. The market to watch for is definitely China with Alibaba being more involved in both premium and “regular” .ME domain markets.
