La Red Innova – To Go or Not to Go and Discover the Spanish Web

2 min read,

For those who are not familiar with the conference, Red Innova is probably one of the biggest Internet-related events that target people who speak Spanish and gathers web-savvy people from Spain, Portugal and Latin America. Having in mind that .Me domains carry multiple meanings in Spanish and that there will be hosting companies targeting the Latin American markets, we decided to give it a shot. Here’s what happened:

The Show and Speakers

The venue was Teatro Circo, an actual theater in the city center with about 800 seats which makes the atmosphere solemn and kind of cosy at the same time. The event was meticulously organized with lectures from 9am to 17pm, including the translation of the whole conference, booths in the coffee break area, workshops and even an open talent competition.

La Red Innova has a great venue.

In addition to Google lectures, Facebook workshops and a Twitter open hour, Luke Williams gave a very insightful presentation about shifting and changing the point ones view. The message? If you’re able to make a romantic comedy out of Stephen King’s Shining you should be able to come up with an innovative web idea!

The Spanish Web

The venue was packed with people from Spain, Portugal, Brazil and Argentina. The good thing was that all the attendees could exchange experiences about starting up on the web in Spanish. The bad thing was that a huge percentage of them did not speak any English.

The venue was actually excellent, most of the lectures retty entertaining but unfortunately Red Innova’s focus was unclear. It seemed as if it tried to promote everything from web technologies, startups, and innovative thinking to changes in education. This concept makes it difficult for attendees to find people from their niche market and was definitely a downside in terms of networking. Nevertheless, Red Innova was interesting, highly educational and we certainly enjoyed our time in Madrid.  Therefore, if anybody is in two minds about signing up for Red Innova we recommend that you give it a shot.
