Instaport.me: Facebook Just Bought Instagram – Time to Download (or Even Delete) Your Photos?!
Mark Zuckerberg himself confirmed that Facebook will be buying the popular photo sharing mobile app and service Instagram, that just recently publicly launched its Android app. While Zuckerberg says that they are going to leave Instagram, stating that “That’s why we’re committed to building and growing Instagram independently”, some of you might wish to get out as soon as possible. Thanfully, the free service Instaport lets you do just that: export your Instagram photos to other social services or your hard drive.
AllThingsD’s Kara Swisher says that Facebook is buying Instagram for $1 billion. Why so much? Well, Instagram has over 30 million users across its apps and the already mentioned Instagram for Android was downloaded over 1 million times in just one day. It’s not that users don’t trust Facebook, it’s just that a lot of them aren’t sure about Facebook’s privacy record. Once again, Zuckerberg states:
That’s why we’re committed to building and growing Instagram independently. Millions of people around the world love the Instagram app and the brand associated with it, and our goal is to help spread this app and brand to even more people.
How to Instaport Your Instagram Photos
If that’s not enough for you or if you just want to be sure to backup your Instagram photos, just follow these simple steps:
- Go to Instaport.me;
- Sign in with your Instagram profile;
- Choose which photos you want to download as a zip archive;
- That’s it. Now re-upload them to another network such as Google+ if you want.
You can actually choose from a number of settings in the Advanced Options tab, for example a range of dates, downloading just a few dozen of your latest photos or singling out photos with specific hashtags. So, will you do it, just in case?
