How To Write A WordPress Post: The Beginners Guide

3 min read,

With WordCamp 2013 behind us, we have decided to make the ultimate guide for WordPress beginners, specifically on how to write a blog post using this platform. It is considered that WordPress is powering around 18% of all websites (that’s 1 in every 6 website). Numbers get even bigger – that’s more than 71 million websites all over the world!

Getting Started

After you have signed up for a free WordPress blog, or have installed WP files on your website, the next thing is to familiarize yourself with all the things inside the Admin Panel. Today, we are going to focus on the features which enable you to write and edit a blog post, all for the purpose of publishing it on you’re blog. First thing you’re going to have to do is to locate the section “New” on your WordPress toolbar. From the drop down menu, select “Post”. This will prompt you to the section where you’ll be able to write your post.

First, come up with a title for your post or article. Make sure it’s catchy or related to a subject you’re writing about. WordPress will also automatically generate a Permalink which you can edit and input your own URL words. Below that there is a button for uploading your Media (you can insert pictures and other material directly into your post). You will also find the bold, italics and underline option as well as other features such as quotation, text justify and format.

Writing The Article And Publishing It

If you have ever worked with a text editor, you will find everything very familiar in WordPress. Simply write your thoughts down and organize them in paragraphs. Bold and underline the important sections and make sure you hyperlink your references. It helps out other bloggers but it also shows that you are very well informed about the subject you’re writing about. After you finish with your article, you can preview it by heading to the “Preview” option.

Make sure that your spelling is right and that you are happy with how everything looks. Double check everything and after you make sure that everything is the way it’s suppose to be, hit the “Publish” button. You will be able to view and share your post by clicking the link you have generated. Now, all you have to do is sit down, make a large cup of coffee and write. You never know, they might spark something bigger and better!
