Editor’s note: Since writing this article, FormSpring.ME has moved locations. We wish FormSpring much luck on their journey! However, you can read our story about a similar .MEr here.

FormSpring.me is a free service that you can can ask all kinds of questions at, anonymously. The site started in November 2009. and in these 2 years it has grown to 24 million accounts – with over 3,000,000,000 responses!

The Formspring team reached its first million users goal in just 45 days. We had a little chat with Laura Oppenheimer, FormSpring’s Marketing Manager, at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference.

Why did you choose a .ME domain name?

FormSpring initially launched as Formspring.com. As the site grew – we gained 1 million followers in our first 45 days – we noticed a funny trend. Our users would say “formspring me!” when they wanted someone to ask them a question. We started hearing this over and over again so we thought why not build that into the product. Today you can access Formspring at Formspring.com or Formspring.me, but our main URL is FormSpring.me.

What is your mission statement?

FormSpring encourages people to find out more about each other in a simple and fun way. It starts by directly asking people original questions in anticipation of their entertaining or revealing responses. Responses can range from straightforward to surprising and can lead to understanding something more about the people you know or find interesting. Whether you are curious to know more about a college you are applying to, the movies your friend likes, or the stories of someone you respect, on Formspring, you can have fun, share insights, and relate to one another in a new way.

Laura announced that they’ve launched Formspring’s official app for iPhone and iPod Touch this week! With the Formspring app you can now respond to friends on the go, ask questions, and even share photos to get your friends’ responses to just about anything, from anywhere. We’re thrilled with the result, and hope to have more mobile offerings soon, Laura says.

How does having a .ME domain help?

FormSpring is all about sharing personal, funny and interesting responses with friends and followers. Having a .me domain reinforces that – responses on Formspring aren’t focused on being “right”, they’re focused on showing something about the person responded.

What do you expect from TCDisrupt in San Francisco?

We’ve loved having the time to talk to technology focused people about what we’re doing at FormSpring! People seem to be especially impressed with our growth: 26 million registered users in under 2 years. It’s also been fun to see the amazing variety of start-ups and companies here who are doing innovative work in the technology space.

FormSpring.me is a service you’ll definitely try because of that feeling you have when you’re anonymous; you can ask any question you like. But then again, the true fun starts when you open up your profile to the public and when the same questions get to you. Will you have what it takes to answer to them honestly, not knowing who asked it? Or you maybe already have?
