Fashion.me Has Over 1,000,000 Users: An Interview With Founder Renato Steinberg

3 min read,

Fashion.me is a fashion social network and a place that replicates the social experiences that happen when girls and guys talk about fashion. When they go to the mall, for example, they’re not there just to buy products, but to find new things, talk about fashion, see what other people are wearing and discuss whether this bag goes with those shoes. Fashion.me gets all of those experiences and put it online. With almost 1 million users, Fashion.me is the #1 fashion focused website in Brazil, and now they’re launching to the world.

During TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco, we had a chance to talk to Renato Steinberg, founder of the Fashion.me network.

Why did you choose a .me domain name?

Fashion.me really represents the spirit of our product. We’re not talking about fashion that is dictated by the experts media or some celebrity. We all do our own fashion and that’s really represented in the Fashion.me domain.

What do you expect from TCDisrupt SF?

We are here to launch our global presence. Moving out of Brazil and into the world. The best place to launch this kind of thing is on TC Disrupt, where we have all of the startups, investors and media community in a single place.

Fashion.me is actually a Brazilian startup. Could you tell us more about entrepreneurship in Brazil?

Internet entrepreneurship in Brazil was almost nonexistent 5 years ago, due to the high interest rates, and the lack of incentives from the government. But that really changed in past few years, and atmosphere there is really cool. We are beginning to see a lot of very bright people moving away from traditional careers and into building startups and the venture-capital industry is being born.

The time couldn’t be better with Brazil going thru a very nice phase regarding economic growth and the potential for business with next soccer world cup and Olympic games happening there.

What is challenging about going global?

We believe that we have a great product, but we know that there are some markets that are pretty competitive. We have built some very successful partnerships in Brazil, and we want to do the same kind of partnerships in other geographies in order to achieve this huge engagement that we have on our site. The most challenging thing, is trying to get users to try our products, because once they do, I know that they will love it.

What after Disrupt?

We are getting back to work really hard into putting the best product ever on the american and global market!

Fashion.me is on track, have you thought about launching a fashion-based web product?
