DoMEn Cup: A Programming Competition for Young Students
In order to connect as many young people who are in love with computer science and help them develop their skills, we have organized a series of events one of which is the DoMEn Cup. The idea of DoMEn Cup was born three years ago, when we organized the first competition together with the Faculty of Science of the University of Montenegro, and we are particularly happy that it gains more popularity with each new edition.
What’s interesting about this Cup is that it’s held entirely in the virtual world. Yes, you read it well – no group gatherings, just a young fella, a computer with Internet connectivity and some concentration are required. Being held completely online, this competition will drastically lower the anxiety levels youngsters might have due to participating in a competition.
Who Is It For?
DoMEn Cup is an online competition for all elementary and high school students in Montenegro who are familiar with C/C++, Java, Pascal and Python programming languages. No matter the level they are currently at when it comes to programming, this competition is great for testing their skills and learning in that process!
The complexity of the test is age-adjusted. Thus the competition will be divided into two groups, separating elementary form high school students. The tests they will be doing are similar in their foundations but more mature students will be doing an advanced version compared to their younger fellows.
How Does It Work?
Following similar competitions in the surrounding countries, students go through three rounds of solving problems using one of the above-mentioned programming languages. The DoMEn Cup champions are determined by the points collected in all three rounds.
Once the student confirms the solution for that round is they will immediately get the information about how many points it takes. This information will only be available to them and thus it will eliminate the tension of comparing it to the others. Each of the three rounds will be organized on the last Saturday of the month, giving the chance for young programmers to improve their skills and get a higher score the next time.
No Previous Experience? No problem.
The professors have prepared a special tutorial for all first-comers that will help you get the first round of the competition fully prepared. In addition, after submitting the access information, they can also experience a trial version of the competition and see how things work. There is no room for discomfort and fear of the unknown here! After all, we all had to start somewhere, right? 🙂
How to apply?
The first round of the competition begins on Saturday, March 28th at 3:30 pm. The applications are open now and students can apply at any point in the competition. The application form and all the additional information can be found on the STEM education website.
One more thing worth mentioning before you go: this competition is great preparation for the Knowledge Olympics and all other youth programming competitions in the world. Also, students who end up having the best results will get some awesome prizes from the .ME team. So, get ready and see you online! 🙂
