Collections.Me Will Bring Your ‘Cloud’ Files Back to Earth Starting With Google Docs!

Google Drive is great – you can store and edit documents of all sorts right up there in the cloud, however, sometimes you want to work on those files in a place where there is no Internet connection available. Collections.Me comes in handy.
Currently in a closed beta (you’ll need an invite), Collections.Me is a webapp container for Google Drive – one of its many strengths is the ability to control files from multiple Google accounts. You’ll just have to type your Google profile information and you’ll get the access to files all over your other Google accounts. However, it isn’t limited to Google Drive only – it wants to make all of your cloud content searchable and accessible from one location.
Cloud Service – Locally
We know, you love cloud services and there’s Internet everywhere today and Google Drive is a great service – agreed. But still, many of you out there still prefer to use a native word processor instead of Google Docs, right? A native spreadsheet editor instead of some online solution. There’s no exact explanation why that is, but you know it is.
On the other hand, it’s hard to resist to the cloud and all of its goodness. Sync, collaboration and what-not which makes your work easier. Collections.Me is a simple solution to that – you’ll have all of your cloud documents available on your local computer and once you get online, all the changes will be synced. Great, isn’t it?

Currently, Collections.Me is available only for Mac users and you can ask for your invite here.
More Than Just Drive
As mentioned earlier, Collections.Me wants to index all your data in the cloud and create a copy of it on your local computer. It’s going to take a long time to get there, but you know the saying – a trip of a thousand miles begins with one step. So does Collections.Me; the team started with Google Drive support and now they’ve released support for Instagram and your filtered photos. Facebook photos support is also available.
Collections.Me was a part of YCombinator’s recent demo day and the whole project is run by a two-person team from Princeton, Lee and Tony Xiao. They are also participants in the Highland Capital’s Summer@Highland student entrepreneur program, so we can expect some great things from Collections.Me.
The plan for now is to build up a user base, after which they’ll start thinking about monetization. There will probably be some sort of freemium business model. Whatever the future for this great service is, check out Collections.Me!
