About.Me 1.1: Have You Tagged Your Profile Yet or Have You Already Missed Your Dream Job?
About.Me, a great service cofounded by Tony Conrad who we interviewed recently, just got some updates which will make your experience even better. Your About.Me page is now easier to discover and if you put a little effort in it, you might get connected with some really cool folks.
To start with your About.Me site, you’ll have to signup for free. If you need some inspiration, check out these 10 coolest About.Me profiles, maybe you’ll find something interesting. Once you create your profile, you’ll also get a username@about.me e-mail address along with a free pack of About.Me business cards made from your About.Me profile – cool, isn’t it?
Of course, if you’re an old About.Me user, you already know all this. So, what’s new for you?
Adding Your Friends
You spent several months, even years getting your friends at most of your social networks, right? Got in touch with old ones, found some new ones… Perhaps they also have an About.Me page but you just didn’t know. Now you can check which of your friends have an About.Me profile and connect with them!
Head over to your Dashboard and lookup your Gmail and Yahoo! Mail contacts, Windows Live, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn are also available, as well as some other social sites. The system will go through the list and check if there are About.Me users in that list. Once you find your friends and get in touch with them, you can add them to your Favorites for an easy access to their profile.
Tags, Tags, Tags
To find your friends is cool, but let’s be honest – you’ve created your About.Me profile because you want to get found by a potential employee or a business partner, right? If you’re a web designer, how will your potential clients find you? With tags of course!
You can now tag your About.Me profile with tags that describe what you do, what your talents and hobbies are, where you’re located etc. You can use tags to find others as well, so get out there and find your coworker! If you want to be included in tag search results, make sure select some tags in the Biography tab at your Edit Profile view. Ten tags should be enough for everybody, right?
How To Get More Visitors?
Finally, the About.Me team composed a new video explaining what you can do to reach more people with your About.Me profile. Instead of having that obnoxious e-mail signature filled with useless information, you can simply paste your About.Me link. Check it out:
