About.Me Adds Instagram-based Background Images

3 min read,

Your personal landing page service, About.Me, has added a number of new services to let you personalize your About.me page. In a nutshell, they are adding the ability to add you location, an easier way to connect with you, a completely new WordPress widget and Instagram-based backgrounds!

But lets take it one step at a time. First of all, one of About.Me’s key features are background images that you add as huge wallpapers, at least if you want them to look really well. About.Me has added a number of preselected background you can choose from, by contributors and artists like Ekin Calgar, Trevor Brown, Yadunandan Pujara and Tom Denning.

The most interesting new “background feature” are actually Instagram background that you create by pulling in your own photos from the popular mobile photo service, acquired by Facebook just a couple of months ago:

While someone may be impressed by your background image, they really do need a way to contact you. Thankfully, About.Me is making connecting even easier with the, obviously named, Connect button.

Connect… duh!

What it is a fast link to your LinkedIn, Instagram or Twitter profile that is added automatically when you add one of the mentioned social media services. While LinkedIn is suited for professionals of any kind, Instagram is a great choice for those whose careers rely upon the images they share on it.

New Apps in the Center

Since About.Me also has an app center, you can add two new apps in November – and that’s Kred Story which lets you show off your most influential activities in social media as a visual stream on your page; and Memolane that lets you go back in the past to see how time has passed by and history was made.

New Apps: Kred & Memo!

Now that you have your About.Me widgets and features in order, you might as well shared it with the world. Since we’ve “socialized” the hell out of our About.Me pages, lets not share it on Facebook for the 100th time, but add it to our WordPress blog. About.Me’s new WordPress widget can be easily added to both a WordPress.com (hosted) and WordPress.org (self-hosted) website. The addition is logical since the cofounder Tony Conrad that we interviewed for the .Me blog is also an investor in Automattic, the company that makes and manages WordPress.

Oh yeah, you can add your location to your About.Me page – well, have you?! Open your About.Me page if you still haven’t – it’s free!
