5 Personal Branding Resolutions for the New Year

7 min read,

Finally! It’s that time of the year! Time for some personal branding resolutions. ✨

Finding methods to better oneself is the focus of new year resolutions, which you could say touches on your personal brand. So why not make 2023 the year that you concentrate on developing or honing your online personal brand?

Whether you are someone who wants to stick out in your line of work, or someone who simply wants to work on themselves, this is just the right place for you!

Let’s start!

#1 On Your Personal Branding Resolutions List – Define Your Goals

First thing on your personal branding resolutions list should be defining your goals. Decide what you want an internet brand to do for you

Do you want to land a job or bring in more freelance work? Or do you simply wish to enhance your web visibility more generally? Maybe you want to sell more products or increase the amount of publicity your company receives? Once you’ve worked this out, put it in writing. The likelihood of success will rise as a result of this.

Decide what you want an internet brand to do for you.

Take into account that acknowledging yourself should be the first thing, before defining any goals. Not knowing the real YOU is the most common mistake people make. You must know what makes you tick. Identify what matters to you, your strengths and weaknesses, your behaviors, tendencies and thought patterns. Only then you can define your goals.

And the most important tip I can give you: Set measurable goals. It’s important to have measurable goals, so that you can track your progress and stay motivated. Assessing progress helps you to stay focused, meet your deadlines, and feel the excitement of getting closer to achieving your goals.

#2 On Your Personal Branding Resolutions List – Create Your Short Bio

Another thing on your personal branding resolutions list should be creating a short bio – introduction or elevator pitch. Learning how to describe yourself in just a few sentences will improve your employability chances. So how do you do that?

Start by briefly describing who you are. Consider whether you want your bio to represent you personally or professionally. Your bio should include your brand name if you have a personal brand or business. You can also describe who your target audience is. Without this, how can your potential clients know what you do, right?

Also, make sure that anything you come up with is genuine. Be humble but confident. Your personal biography should list your most impressive professional accomplishments without coming across as arrogant.

It is important that you bring out something that makes you different.

Finally, add some flare. It is important that you bring out something that makes you different. It’s not the point to make a classic bio, especially if you do some creative work.

And I don’t need to say that it’s always smart to create your personal website where you can showcase your skills along with the mentioned introduction. Portfolios are a must have if you are a developer, designer, artist etc.

#3 On Your Personal Branding Resolutions List – Google Yourself

Have you ever googled yourself? You should! That is the first step you need to take if you want to take care of your digital footprint (which you should). This can be the most fun part of your personal branding resolutions list! It is easy, look at the results and take care of everything that needs to be taken care of.

Very important part of your digital footprint are, for sure – your social media platforms. So, first, check all the social networks that you already have. Even if you don’t use them for your business – they need to be organized. Locked, cleaned and so on.

And then, when you do the needed clean up, the next step is to create some new, useful SM platforms.

Create Profiles On Right SM Platforms

Depending on your goals, you should carefully choose the right platforms for your personal branding.

And when I say create profiles on SM platforms, I don’t mean just Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram etc. There are many SM platforms like Dribbble, sites specifically for designers and so on, Stackoverflow for developers, as well as GitHub. Do your research and choose wisely.

Sometimes, a good selection of one network means more than having profiles on ten others.

Sometimes, a good selection of one network means more than having profiles on ten others.

Additionally, when you have SM, you get networking as a benefit, especially on networks specific to your industry!

Don’t forget to always think in advance about what you post, because what happens on the Internet – stays on the Internet. Always keep in mind who will see what you post, and how much it benefits you. Be smart.

#4 On Your Personal Branding Resolutions List – Photoshoot Time!

Another thing to put on your personal branding resolutions list is creating portraits. Okay, maybe this one is the most fun. It is important to have a good headshot (the must is to look like yourself). Create photos that best represent YOU.

Using photography to support one’s personal brand is a great method to capitalize on the visual aspect of the human brain. High-quality, authentic photography can play a significant part in communicating a brand’s identity for people who are developing an online portfolio or operating an internet business.

I should say, it doesn’t have to be a super serious photo, but, of course, that also depends on the job.

So, choose how you want to present yourself. And here are a few tips. First, create a mood board and plan location. Then, dress up, get your hair and makeup done, and strike a pose!

#5 On Your Personal Branding Resolutions List – Create Value

Now, the last item on your personal branding resolutions list (but not any less important). There are many ways in which you can develop a brand, while giving something to the people around you and being recognized as an expert. Find ways to create value!

How, you may ask? Well, there really are many ways you can add value to your brand. Some of them are podcasts, webinars, videos, reels/tik tok tutorials (again, all depending on what you do). One of my favorites is writing. That is because it powers communication, and communication provides society with a framework.

Writing won’t be on everyone’s list of skills because not everyone has the same talents. But here’s the thing. Even if you don’t consider it to be one of your strengths, you shouldn’t steer clear of it. Simply put, it implies you need to create time for it.

Consider creating a blog. They are very popular because it’s a fantastic opportunity to inform clients, offer advice or instructions, and strengthen relationships with your company. Anyhow, writing is not only blogs, writing is posts on LinkedIn, Instagram caption and so on. So whatever you do, you have to deal with the brand – and that means at least a little bit of writing too as it is very important for the brand.

It can be useful to actually arrange the time to do so, whether you’re sitting down to write a few insightful tweets, a blog post for your website, or an article for LinkedIn. It doesn’t have to take up a lot of time because that can be stressful. You can start writing by simply blocking off 10 minutes on a daily basis in your calendar.

Wrapping Up

Let’s wrap it up. New Year’s resolution or not, it’s important to periodically take stock of your personal branding efforts and make sure you’re putting the best foot forward.

Hopefully, this article about personal branding resolutions inspired you to work on your personal brand! My last advice for you is to always work on yourself – for yourself!

Until next time.
